Crystal carafe with six tumbler glasses in faceted crystal, designed by Charles Graffart for Val-Saint-Lambert.
The Val-Saint-Lambert crystal works were founded in 1825 in the former Val-St-Lambert monastery in Seraing, Belgium, south of Liège. To this day they are still run as a family business.
Well-known designers were Léon Ledru (1855–1926), Victor Horta, Henry van de Velde, Joseph Simon (1874–1960) and Charles Graffart (1893–1967), artistic director at Val-Saint-Lambert from 1942-1958.
From 1920 onwards, production successfully focused on glassware in the Art Deco style. The success was crowned by the award of the Grand Prix for the exhibits at the Paris Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels modernes in 1925.
