

Max Moreau (2.9.1902 Soignies – 2.9.1992 Granada) made numerous trips between 1929 and 1938, which included repeatedly led to Tunisia. Here he discovered for himself the light of the Mahgreb, which was to have a strong influence on his painting.
In 1947 he moved to Marrakech with his wife. In October 1954, Moreau traveled to New York, where he successfully portraied the wealthy clientele of the Jet Set. Moreau became also known for his numerous artist portraits from theater, cinema and opera.
Moreau's last exhibition was in 1981. From then on, his Parkinson's disease prevented him from working as an artist. Moreau stipulated that his inheritance should go to the city of Granada, where he had lived since 1966.
His residence is now a museum, the studio has been completely preserved and a large part of his work is open to the public free of charge.
