Altenloh is one of those jewelers that can be described as historic, along with Wolfers and Leyzen. Like Wolfers, Altenloh has been a family business since its inception. When Edward began a goldsmithing career in 1832 at the age of 17, he could hardly have imagined that he would one day create a real dynasty.
The family business was officially founded in 1878 by his son Ernest Altenloh, and the Altenloh Jewelry and Goldsmithing Company was born.
In 1910, Ernest won the Grand Prix for the quality of his art at the Brussels World's Fair.
Ernest was followed by Robert and Yvan Altenloh, who helped make their company one of the main suppliers of goldsmith work to the Royal Court.
The baton was eventually passed on to Jacques, a young graduate in gemology and Yvan's grandson. He is the last Altenloh in the line of Brussels jewelers. But in the early 1990s, Jacques died suddenly without leaving a successor.
On July 1, 2021, Altenloh came to life again! With a new, dynamic team, Altenloh is successful again and aims to once again rise to the top of the Brussels jewelry industry.
