Johann Jacob Weber (* 3. April 1803 in Basel; † 16. März 1880 in Leipzig)

In August 1834, Johann Jacob Weber, a German bookseller and publisher, opened up the publishing house J. J. Weber in Leipzig.

In 1843, together with Carl Berendt Lorck, he founded the Illustrirte Zeitung, Germany's first illustrated weekly paper, revolutionizing the perception of the world. Still today, the pictorial sequences in his illustrated newspaper, first of the steel engravings and later of the wood engravings, shape our ideas of the "good old days".
